My floors get cleaned when I need to lay out a quilt and sandwhich it. So the faster I get that quilt done the faster that floor gets attention. I cook now and again, but my husband has learned to fend for himself when I'm involved. The rest of the house gets a cleaning when I feel like it and always before those well expected visits from family and friends. So it all works out.

I try to make a list in the morning of the things that I should do during the day. I sew for a living so quilting for pleasure is usually done on weekends, but sometimes it just sneaks out during the workday and takes over. I like to get a couple of loads of laundry washed and hung and try to get the dishwasher unloaded and reloaded. Also I enlist the help of my 17 year old son. He is not always happy to do chores, but will do them if I ask.

Forgot to add one thing. Staying away from the computer really helps to get housework and quilting done!

I try to make quilting like a necessity on weekdays while DH is at work. Mornings are for chores and errands but afternoons are mine for quilting. So at least 5 days a week I have 3-4 hrs a day to quilt and my housework gets done in the mornings. And then evenings and weekends is when I do handwork.

This subject reminds me.....DUST IF YOU MUST.....

A house becomes a home when you can write “I love you” on the furniture. I used to spend at least 8 hours every weekend making sure things were just perfect, in case someone came over. Finally I realized one day that no-one came over; they were all out living life and having fun! Now, when people visit, I don’t have to explain the condition of my home. They are more interested in hearing about the things I’ve been doing while I was away living life and having fun.

If you haven’t figured this out yet, please heed this advice. Life is short. Enjoy it!

Dust if you must…..but wouldn’t it be better to paint a picture or write a letter, bake cookies and lick the spoon, plant a seed, quilt, or ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust is you must…..but the world’s out there with the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair, a flutter of snow, a shower of rain.

This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must…..but bear in mind, old age will come and it’s not kind. And when you go, and go you must, you yourself will make more dust!

Well I decided to try the 15 minutes at a time. I got the kitchen timer,and then took 20 minutes to decide where to start! I must say though that my bed is clear of dust bunnies under it and the bedroom floor is clean. When the buzzer went off, I got on here to tell everyone the news :-D :-D

My family can clean when I am gone...and they get to divide my finished quilts between them!

I work the night shift, so that in itself makes it hard to get things done.I do laundry on my day off,I cook daily, but only one meal a day.Which, is up to Hubby, if he wants breakfast,it's biscuits and gravy. If dinner roast and potatoes,and so on.He will do dishes,and his on laundry.I do the laundry for the house,towels, sheets, stuff like that.He takes care of the mowing and outside work.I take care of spring cleaning.We share everything.Some times he will cook on my days off.He is proud of my quilting,and brags on me to his friends.But he doesn't get it about the stash yet.I try to tell him it's like his tools.I have to have the tools to do the job right.He is a keeper even after 36 years

When I retired I kept my cleaning ladies. They come once every two weeks. They do in two and a half hours what would take me two weeks to do. I call them my white tornadoes. They do a great job and I feel justified. I owe it to myself. Then I can quilt until my hubby complains I'm ignoring him. (Now I need to get a sitter for him and all would be perfect.)
