Certain needles do not work with this. I think the ones with the round needle hole work and the long eyed needles do not. It will tell you on the package.

I have had one for about 9 years, It wont work on the very small eyed needles. I use an 11 or 12 tween for hand quilting and it wont work but on the other needles I use it does and I like it very much. I dropped it the other day and now I need to buy another one. They are much more expensive now. lol

my husband was a truck driver and he found one of those in a truck stop many years ago.and bought one home for me. He was always finding something for me. That thing is really useful.
