How did you learn how to quilt?

I learned hand-quilting from my mother-in-law and my hubby's great-aunt. I learned the modern methods of cutting fabric and chain piecing from my mother. And I have learned FMQ from teaching myself. And now, I teach others.....

I am new to quilting but have been sewing on and off since I was 12 years of age (now 62). I am learning through reading. I like Harriet Hargrave & Carrie Hargrave: "Quilters Academy". Each book (not expensive) is a different level of quilting expertise. I find their writing communication very clear and understandable. Good luck and have lots of fun!

I have always been 'crafty', but my quilting is strictly self-taught through much trial and error over the years. I only consulted books when I couldn't figure it out for myself. But now, the knowledge I've gained through my contacts here has proven to be more than invaluable. I thank you all.

My Uncles second wife owned a quilting business. She pieced and sold quilts and did long arm quilting. She taught me the basics of quilting, 1968. I have continued to educate myself by watching quilting shows and quilting books. I continue to find patterns and information on the internet.

Saw a "Quilt In A Day" Log Cabin quilt pattern at our local JoAnn's and decided to accept the challenge. Thank goodness for the explicit instructions! Did I finish it in a day....NO!...but I did finish it in a weekend and it's been uphill ever since.

Self taught. The first quilt I did I just did it the way I thought was right and it turned out a bit of a mess LOL So then I got a book called quilting 101 and my next one turned out MUCH better. I have only been quilting 1 and a half years and I think with each quilt I make I get better
