One thing that Sharon didn't do, that I had heard needed to be done, was to alternate the mitered corners. When you come to a corner and fold those miters, there is quite a thickness on one side. In order to alternate that, we need to fold the bottom binding up first, secure it somehow, and then fold the side binding over that. That way the thick folds will not be on top of each other.
I hope you can understand this.

I also do this at the corners to lessen the bulkiness -

When I do the first stitching of the binding on to the quilt, The "pleat/dart/miter" goes the way it "works/wants to" while applying the binding.

When doing the second stitching of the binding (when it's wrapped around the edge of the quilt) - I do make the "pleat/dart/miter" "face the other direction" - I still have a bit of a lump/hump at the corners, but this does make the lump/hump into a hill instead of a mountain.

I was taught to put my binding on prior to cutting the excess off, this is what I have always done. Currently I sometimes will put the binding on whIle it's on the frame so can't cut first anyway.

This is exactly what I do and my bindings are always full.

I do mine the same way Tartan does.
