how do you separate stash

I really like all the ideas for storing fabrics. You gals are great!!! I thought I had a lot of stash, but after reading all the ways and amounts of fabrics many of you have, I don;t have as much as I thought. But I still need to be better organized with what I do have. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas.

I used to sort by color but it wasnt enough.
Now I have bins for backgrounds, flannel, backings, 1930, Christmas, batiks, kids, marbles, red white and blue, charms, unfinished, and projects to do. My fats are on a bookcase in small baskets that are at the dollar store.

I separate mine by length of the cut and then by color. I can see what color it is. When I'm looking for at least 3 yards of a red there's no point in pulling out a 2 yard cut. And it makes it faster to find the right 2 yard cut of green if all the 2 yard cuts of green are together.
