Some of the things I have learned to do when I put a "work in progress" (or abandoned) -

Write down what sewing machine I was using, which presser foot I was using, and the needle position I was using.
(I try for 1/4 inch seam allowances - but - - - _

Include the pattern - or at least the name of the book and page number and name of the pattern.

Maybe some indications of "what was I thinking" at the time.

I have copied the pattern & included that if there is another pattern that has caught my eye. That way I can take the book or magazine with me shopping.

I have jumbo-sized (or whatever size is needed) zip-type bags to store my cut pieces with partially finished blocks along with the pattern and any notes. I can't seem to finish many projects before starting a new one, and I've learned the hard way to keep everything together. I always think I will remember, but I rarely do!

I'm recycling the small plastic storage boxes with lids that used to hold folded fabrics. I am in process of winding fabrics onto magazine boards, which I like! I try to get main pieces cut before moving on, otherwise I'll lose my train of thought. My problem is how to store finished tops that are starched and crisp.

Good tips Bear...I don’t usually have more than 2 WIPs however, I am currently following two BOM so I store the blocks in separate 13x13 craft boxes I purchased from Michaels.

I only work on one project at a time but I'm going to use the tips from bearisgray about writing down the needle position and needle size. I always forget the needle position.

I use the 12x12 scrapbook storage boxes for projects. They are my go-to containers for lots of sewing items. Each machine has one one with accessories. Notions such as zippers, ric-rac, screen mesh, etc each go into the box and gets a label. Easy to see what I need and they stack on the closet shelf.

Great idea bearisgray to write down the information. The most I write down is the neutral I use. My favorite is Northcott, so I will write down the color number or if I have used another brand. First my WIPs go into white plastic dishpans with additional fabrics and the pattern. Then if I really can't get into it, the fabrics get culled down to just the certain prints, and put in the the 12x12 scrapbook boxes like RhondaK. If I wait too long, it goes to the free table at Guild. But I keep the plastic case.

I guess I fall into the category of completing one project before I start another. If I would have 2 going on at the same time, I would put one of them in a sew thru bag and put it where I could see it easily. Just me.

I use the plastic project boxes to hold each one. I put in the pattern and the specialty ruler/notions if needed for the pattern along with the project and all the fabric that is needed to finish it.
