That's how I do mine.

I wash inwarm water and dry on low!(baby quilts.) In other quilts I wash in cold and dry on my clothes line on a cloudy day. I also include washing instructions when I present a quilt so they know how to take care of it. :D

I'm about to finish a quilt to give away, it seems from the handling it needs a wash also i want it to smell good. How do you handle yours????
I generally wash the fabric first and then the quilt before I give it away. Smells better and is softer.

I prewash fabric in cold water before sewing so I will know if there will be running. After making the quilt, I was on the gentle cycle in cold water and dry in the dryer. So far, has always worked for me.

wash in cold water with color catcher, gentle cycle and partially dry by hanging then finish in dryer. love to see the puckering of the quilting and feel the softness of the newly washed fabric

I wash in cold water with one tablespoon (that is all it takes) of Orvus quilt soap. I purchased a gallon of it at the local feed store for $30, as opposed to a 8 ounce bottle that costs $9.99 at a quilt shop.

I put it in the dryer for 15 minutes and then remove it.

Boring I know but I wash mine on gentle cycle with liguid laundry detergent and dry on permanent press cycle. I prewash my fabric to remove chemicals, dyes and sizing since my quilts are for charity and lots of kids are allergic to these things. The last thing they need is an allergic reaction when they are already in the hospital.

I always wash mine before giving them away. I use Woolite detergent, usually the one for dark fabrics. Have had good success with it, with cold water & then put the quilt in the dryer on med. heat. I never completely dry a quilt in the dryer, though. I take it out while it still has a little dampness left & put it over a bed to finsh drying. I always accompany the gift quilt with instructions on how to care for it. If it is a king size quilt, I go to a laundry where there is a large capacity machine. One thing I've heard is don't wash a quilt more often than is really necessary. They will hold up longer then.
