Not self taught. I took classes at my LQS for beginning machine quilting I and II and am now signed up for FMQ class. I have watched FMQ on the web sites but I am a hands on learner so I find that lessons are better for me. The teacher is great and has taught a lot of "tricks of the trade". I am learning the basic skills and I will move on from there. This LQS offers cheap 2-3 hr quilt specific classes that I may take later. I was a sewer before quilting but who cares if you seams are srtaight or even when making stuffed snowmen or clothes for the grandkids. Quilting has taught be to slow down and that an exact seam does matter. l have learned a lot from this board!

Self taught with the help of Simply Quilts. Won't pay for a subscription when we find so much help on this site. Love it here!

I learned a lot from my Mother and Grandmother and both are in quilting heaven. How they made quilts back in there days is different then what we do now. I don't go to any classes as I have learned the basics and have found many ways of doing things different on my own.

I'm self taught. Started sewing doll clothes when I was eight and just moved on from there.

I have never taken a class. I guess I rely on books, magazines, Mom.

I am youtube taught, bookread taught, and screw-up taught! Seriously though, I have developed more helpful hints through messing up than I care to count, and they keep me out of trouble in the future...

I've also learned not to state the question "how hard could it be?" The answer can surprise you!

I learned to sew out of necessity, all self taught though lots of errors. Quilting is the same, either draw my own or look at something I like and draw my interpretation of what I see. I have on an occasion used a block pattern that someone else drew but not to often.

youtube is great! I learned to knit watching the videos there. I tried the books and they just confused me and I gave up. I've learned lots of quilt related things from youtube too. I'm a visual learner.

Mostly self-taught  I do now attend some local quilting classes at a wonderful little fabric store. They are so friendly and helpful...I can even pick up the phone and ask a question, if I need to.
