Default How much fabric do I need?

Hi! I am really wanting to make a scrappy/many trips around the world quilt, for my Cal King bed. I am having trouble finding a pattern for my bed size. If the strips are 2.5 x 18, how much fabric do I need to make a quilt that is 114x116? Math is not my friend and I appreciate your help lol!

Find the pattern online (say Quilt in a day youtube etc) and see what amount they call for. There are many others I'm sure.

To do the EB method you need 12 cuts of 3/4 yard each. You cut 4" strips at first, then 2.5" sections. Her tutorial is here:

Hi & Welcome!

See if you can find a pattern close to the finished size you want. It will be easier as the fabric amount will be listed already for you. You should consider adding an allowance just in case of a mis-cut or a block re-do. Good luck on your project.

If my math is right (and I make NO promises!) here is what I think might at least get you in the ball park. Each of your 2.5 x 18 strips should yield 6 2.5” squares, which finish at 2”. So, for a 114” x 116” top, you need 57 x 58 squares. That’s a total of 3306 squares. Divide that by the 6 squares per strip, and you need 551 strips of fabric. It seems pretty intimidating, but a many trips isn’t any different than joining other kinds of blocks because each “trip” is it’s own block. You may have to adjust how many trip blocks you want to use so you end up with square trips. For example, if you make the trips 8 squares x 8 squares, it would take 7 trip blocks per row and 7 rows of blocks. That would make it 112 x 112. Then adjust to the full top size with a border. Someone please correct me if I’ve not thought this thru correctly. Then we’ll both have learned something (0:

Just dawned on me. An 8x8 block won’t work. You need an odd number so you can have a center square. But 8 7x7 blocks would work and the math would stay the same. (0:
