How much of yourself goes into a quilt?

I have realised that the top I am making is extremely personal. In it there is my love affair and the longing to be in another place contrasting with the ties of duty and family. I wonder if only I can "see" it?

I also design most of my quilts and machine quilt them on my domestic machine. Lots of thoughts, trial &error sometimes, love for the art of sewing. If for someone special extra love for that person.
I can part with them because that's why I made them. Working on a couple now that are keepers.

I keep a book to go to the person I have made the quilt for, so that he/she understands the work that has gone into it, why I used a particular pattern and what I want to convey to them about me and why I am making this quilt.
Oh, yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. Don't ever lose that feeling because it is what makes you a quilter. Your heart and soul is in that quilt/whatever.
