Mom used to drill into us the importance of careful cutting. I still remember her frustration after a Girl Scout meeting at our house when she found a piece of felt with the heart cut out of the very middle - so an argument for fussy cutting could not be made either. This may have been the same meeting where someone gave the cat a haircut (not sure how she managed that as this was a cat who did not hesitate to show her claws when displeased). I do cringe a bit when fussy cutting to this day.

    Cheers, K

I always try to do my best but if I waited to be perfect my grand children would have no quilt to hold and say "Grandma I can feel your love coming out of your quilt whenever I hold it"

this thread is awesome. the fussy cutting waste is one of the reasons i admire those kaleidescope quilts from afar. the amount of waste of extraordinarily beautiful fabrics makes me cringe.

I learned on a quilt that had lots of seams to match, and learned that if I was as accurate as possible, they always matched up much better. If you are 1/8 inch off on a strip set of 4 fabrics, by the time that set is done you are 1/2 inch off. Nothing will come together right that way. I am a lot slower than most quilters, but I no longer have to unsew nearly as often

Are you my sister? Just kidding. This lady sounds exactly like my mother. Remember taking new fabric and stretching it corner to corner because it always came off the bolt wonky?

I agree. I try to be as accurate as possible, but sometimes it is not as perfect as I would like.

I never really did like (much less adopt) that galloping horse phrase.

I hope that when people see my quilts, they want to slow down, get closer, and gaze for a long time.
