I would stitch in the ditch all the seams first. I would then do a stipple in the background of the squares being careful not to stitch over the lettering. My machine does not like the stitch through the paint.

I did not quilt on the actual pictures or letters on the tshirts. That is not good. I did stiple around them and in between the letters. It actually turned out quite good. I have made 4 now.
