Not using painter's tape may explain why the 1/4" quilters tape that I had on the quilt for several days left a yukky residue. I won't be trying that again.

however, first think about how much additional weight will be added to the quilt if you tape all lines before quilting.

I'm not taping all of the lines. I start at the middle block, and tape out to one side in one row, quilt that, then move the tape to the other side of the row. So I've only got tape on one half of one row of blocks at a time.
