Default hunters star quilt will take forever

A hunters star quilt was/is on my bucket list. got the rapid fire hunters star ruler years ago. so when I started my quilt last week, (blue and white) I decided to PP it. quilters cache had the PP pattern and I was off and running............or so I thought. decided to make one practice block to see how it would turn out. then I started making the mainly blue blocks. I've made 50, and have decided this quilt may take me a year to get done. on no..... i'm only good for about 3 hrs at any stretch now a days......... how long did your hunters star quilts take you to finish????

Two weekends to sew the blocks. I used the Go die to cut the blocks, that took about 30 min for a queen size.

I haven't made a hunter's star quilt, but I have done paper piecing. Some things that I find make it go faster -

Use the Add-a-quarter ruler. Makes it much faster, easier and more accurate when trimming off the excess fabric.

Cut your patches to a size that makes it easy to align them so there's less fussing with the patch's position before sewing.

Assembly-line the process. Cut a bunch of patches at once, sew the next patch on a group of blocks at one time, do the pressing and trimming of the group of blocks instead of one block at a time.

Maybe you're already doing these things. Pat yourself on the head for finally starting this beautiful quilt that's on your bucket list. It's on my list too, but I haven't started it.

ALL of my quilts usually take a year or more from first cut to final stitch. It's all good. Quilting is not a race.

50 blocks so far is great especially working just 3 hours a day. Give yourself a pat on the back. Slow and steady wins the race. You're waaaaay ahead of me, it's at the top of my bucket list and haven't started it yet. Keep on truckin'.

Ya, one to 2 years sounds about right. 50 blocks is 1/2 right?

I agree here, a bed quilt generally takes me that long too. But it's a hobby and the fun part for me is the making of it.

Have you seen the new Add a Quarter ruler? It has a beveled edge to turn the paper onto, no need for extra edge like a an old credit card. I used one at my last retreat. It saved a lot of time. Also having an auto thread cutter is big help when paper piecing. It saves tons of thread too.

Jenny Doan has a video on the Hunters star. That is how I'm doing it. Few blocks started.

I used the Rapid Fire (Deb Tucker) tool a little over a year ago and to do a queen size quilt took me two months from choosing the fabric to finishing the quilt (and a pair of shams), including doing the FMQ on my regular machine. Once you get the hang of it, the blocks go quite quickly.
