Terrific! Yes, I can imagine how thrilled you are ... because I'm still struggling with FMQ and can't wait to finally feel comfortable doing any style FMQ on a "real" quilt. I haven't tried practicing on paper (just small quilt sandwiches) but I may give that a try.

I am delighted that finally things all lined up for you. I also left a quilt as is under the needle and will start finish quilting it this morning.

You can only improve from there with practice. Try quilting new shapes onto a practice sandwich block. It is a good idea to do about 5mins practice on the practice sandwich to loosen you up and check tension etc before you start on your quilt each time.

Good job.

I love to machine quilt. It's the only reason I took up quilting. I don't have the patience to quilt by hand.

Once you get the hang of it, free motion quilting can be very relaxing and rewarding. It's just one of those things that the more you do it the better you get at it. Hang in there. I do all size quilts on my domestic Janome. I do have a larger (9" vs 6") harp area and that makes a big difference on doing large quilts. The part I don't care for is getting a big one basted and ready to be FMQ but am finding tricks to getting that done also.

So exciting! I've just finished my first two tiny FMQ projects, so I know how hard it is at the beginning. Show us pictures if you get a chance
