What a wonderful story. The reason I make quilts and give away most of them. Adults usually get mine but, always appreciate them so much. I don't make art quilts, I make quilts.

I'm a firm believer that blankies of all kinds will find the right home eventually. Last year I had made a group of blankies to sell in a small boutique. One of them was a fleece zebra print on one side and flannel zebras (cute guys with big pink noses) on the other side. I can't tell you how many people came by and looked at that blankie, held it, commented on it, but no one bought it. Eventually I sold all but that one. A few months later someone on the board was looking for a zebra print so she could make a blanket for a little girl also, I believe, in foster care, who loved zebras. I sent her that blankie because I knew it was just sitting there patiently waiting to belong to that little girl.

I, too, make "blankies", but because I don't have the ability to make art quilts. Most of them are so BEAUTIFUL and I enjoy looking at them. It takes a very special talent to make those, and I sure all quilters understand and appreciate that!!!

The look on her face, her bright eyes and soft almost a whispered "thank you" was priceless and is exactly why I make blankies. She spent the rest of our visit sitting quietly in a chair next to me while I showed her mom how to make the dissapearing four patch block. All during her visit she held on to the doll and the quilt on her lap.
I am now making her a doll quilt and some dolly PJ's as she wants to take the doll to bed with her.
