Yes, I remember that series of reading! I went to a country school and had the best teacher! The books were blue, red, yellow and green. Brings back many memories. I went to Lone Star school just outside of Pleasant Hill, Mo.

Dick, Jane, Sally, Puff and Spot and "See Dick run" are still clearly part of my memory of kindergarten and first grade. When we look at what children are expected to read in kindergarten it is not surprising that children are suffering from stress. Childhood has disappeared and been replaces by mean, and median scores and grade level expectations that are higher and higher for younger and younger children. Off my soap box and back to enjoying your work. I am sure you will need to explain "Fun with Dick and Jane" to the children in the class and.... to their parents.

I like the bling that spraying form the hose particularly. Perfect!

What a wonderful trip down memory lane, I have not thought of Dick and Jane in years.

Oh Kathleen, I love it!
I am a paraprofessional in special education and we start in two weeks! I have really enjoyed my summers. I have been at the high school level for 13 years, but have a second job during summers and weekends. My other job is at an assisted living home, and I love it! Everyone becomes attached to them and it's sad when they leave or pass on. It's like having a bunch of grandmas! (mine are all gone now.)
I like your quilt, but wasn't in that era of dick and Jane. Have a great school year!

Yes, I remember them also + Spot !!! I guess that pretty much dates us all. Love your wall hanging, especially the bling. Those extra touches are so special.

Must say I learned to read with Sally, Dick and Jane and Spot. Shows my age. I loved those books. I would love to get my hands on one now, just for old times sake.

In my Catholic grade school, we had John, Judy and Baby. I don't remember if the dog was Spot, but the kitten was Little Mew. When I got older, I looked at those books again and noticed that in the first book or two, Father comes home with a lunch pail, dressed as if he works in a factory. In a later book, they move into a new house, have a new baby, and go to church to have it baptized. What other reading book that you know of has anything to say about going to church? Not even in the Catholic school!
