I agree with everyone. I have made quilts where I have either hand stitched binding on the front or made a decorative stitch on the binding in the front. Both looked great and had mitered corners too. Let yourself and the quilt rest this weekend and finish your work of art. This is just an opportunity to see that there are other ways of finishing a binding. Happy quilting!

Wow, I'm finally able to post. Thank you to all who replied. I'll take your advice & use a decorative stitch & sew it that way, next week. Busy weekend ( yard work, grin).

I agree with others, stitch to the front. Either by hand or machine, make it look intentional! I do this with a decorative stitch and it adds a bit of design to it!

I bind all my children's quilts that way. Sew to the back first and use a decorative stitch on the front. Its easy and much stronger than a hand stitched binding.

I do it that way all the time too...I'm a lousy hand sewer so i sew the binding onto the back first and then use a decorative stitch to sew the binding to the front.

I have done my bindings both front and back. I like sewing to back first and then sewing the front / hand sewn or machine they all look better from the front.

By the way, I did exactly what you did, and I ripped it out. After I saw the second video, I would use it if I did the same thing again.

I read this thread differently. I understood that when sewing the binding on, she got the back of her quilt and stitched it along with the binding. I did that one time. Maybe I am reading it wrong.
