I was talking to my longarm quilter yesterday, and she was telling me about a project she was trying called chicken scratch. She said you use gingham fabric, and embroidery thread. I had no idea what she was talking about, so I came here to the quilt board, and did a search for "chickenscratch" and sure enough here it is, exactly what she was talking about. I'm thinking about attempting it. Fellow quilters, please share your knowledge.

My grandmother did aprons in gingham using the chicken scratch as a decorative stitch.

I did that on aprons when I was a kid. We didn't call it chicken scratch, but I don't remember what we called it. I guess that's part of the reason I have arthritis in my hands, and only like to do things with a machine. Too tedious for me anymore.

I've made 2 pillows from a kit with chicken scratch years ago! Haven't seen it anywhere in ages. It was fun, and not very hard. Was really neat!
