Hi All-

Yesterday I was sewing up a few projects, and for some reason I can't fix the lower tension on my machine. Its all LOOPY and loose and just a mess! I've tried different thread, changed needles, took the machine apart and cleaned it all out, but still major lower tension problems. What is the cause of this? And it will even do this on just cotton fabric..I'm not even talking the heavier stuff.

Also, I did drop the bobbin casing on the floor (wooden floor, and dropped it yestedday) and ever since then, it doesn't work properly. This is a metal casing and it doesn't look damaged to me at all.

Thoughts and help??!!

I do not think that dropping the bobbin case would do that, the only way I know of to adjust the lower tension is to turn the screw on the bobbin case, just a tiny bit.

Try this first: If your bobbin case has a finger on it with a hole, try threading through the hole, that ads a little more tension.

Just so you know, I DO NOT have this machine, just a general suggestion.

If the problem is on the bottom of the fabric the solution is in the top thread path. If the problem is on the top of the fabric the solution is in the bobbin path.

If you have loops on the bottom the problem and solution are in the top thread path.

Dropping your bobbin case can cause damage. There is a tiny little check spring in there that could have popped out.

Problems on the bottom are usually due to top tension however, yesterday, I inserted a new, plastic prewound bobbin which I knew was over-full for my machine and my top thread looked ok but the bottom was all loopy and railroad tracks and the top thread was just laying on top. So, I pulled off a few yards of the bobbin thread & re-inserted. Now it sews fine. I know better than to put this batch of prewound bobbins in without pulling some off first but I did it anyway.

Back to your problem. You said you did the bobbin drop test and it hit the floor. How fast did it unspool before it hit the floor? It's only supposed to drop slowly and with some threads, you have to shake it a little to get it to drop.

If adjusting the little screw on the bobbin case doesn't change anything, then I believe you have knocked the tiny little tension spring out of whack. Having an extra or even a couple extra bobbin cases on hand is a good thing. That way, if you use more than one kind of bobbin thread, you can have each one individually adjusted for each type of thread.

Update - thanks everyone for the suggestions, and when I was messing around with it today, I had completely forgotten that I changed the tension dial on the machine which is why it screwed everything up. I didn't know that the reason the stitching is a mess on the bottom is due to the tension on the top. I learn something new whenever I come here. So, as of now, problem solved.

I also think I will get another extra bobbin case just for different thread. That is a good suggestion! Thanks!
