Default Problems with lower tension

I hope someone is able to help me. My mom called me and told me she was having problems with her lower tension being to loose. She has changed the needle, cleaned the machine, messed with the tension and nothing is working. Has any one had this problem before happening out of the blue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What kind/model of sewing machine does she have?

Did she rethread everything? Both top and bottom threads?

I'm no expert by any means but did she change thread weights?? Unless she's changed thread weights I don't know of a reason this would happen 'out of the blue'?? But I'm sure there will be other, more knowledgeable, folks along shortly to answer your question. But yes, make; model of machine will certainly help with a proper answer.

Did she put the bobbin in "right"? Some brands require it be put in only one way. Just a thought

Is it actually the bottom tension that is amiss or is she seeing thread tension issues on the bottom of her work?

Here's a link for what to check before you take your machine to the shop. http://shesasewingmachinemechanic.bl...-to-check.html I wonder if the bottom of the fabric looks like the first picture?

I would sew on two pieces of fabric turning the upper tension knob until I could get the stitch look I want. Messing with the bottom bobbin screw could cause lots of problems. Have her look through machine manual. Usually there is a trouble shooting page or so.

Make sure there is no lint under the spring part of the bobbin case. For my HQ, they say clean under that with each bobbin change, as even a tiny bit if lint can affect the bobbin tension.

A piece of thread stuck in the tension disk can cause tension problems.. I take a piece of dental floss with a knot tied in it and pull it through the disk. Most of the time it will dislodge it if that is the problem.
