Outlining the patterns will be beauiful. That is a beautiful quilt and I'm sure it will be more gorgeous than ever when you finish. Be sure to post.

Your quilt is OUTSTANDING! I have to agree with the first poster about how to quilt it. I love batiks but as a handquilter steer clear of them as they are very hard to handquilt through. After more than 40 years of handquilting I know what my hands like and don't like.

I'll add my voice to the others who recommend a simple 1/8" off "outline" stitch.

You don't want the quilting to detract from the incredible piecing you've done here.

In some cases you might consider an "echo" around certain shapes.

Maybe in the medallion you could quilt only the cream/light pieces to let the darker pieces advance. Either a simple 1/4 around or, a series of parallel lines (in the light/cream) or echoing.

One-eighth inch sounds very pretty but wouldn't that have you stitching through double quarter inch seams, in places? Ouch.

Your quilt is exquisite, BTW. Happy quilting.

I like both ideas - echo quilting & 'tracing' design on backing. BUT I know wouldn't be able to hand quilt the batiks. I'd take the time to do it by machine even though it would probably take forever.

Your quilt is so beautiful it doesn't need much. Kiffie's suggestions sound perfect!!

Thanks for looking.
I agree that's what I would do --we call it shadow quilting in England at least that's what was told it was.
It is lovely and if the quilting is too busy it will take away the lovely lines.

Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous. I am new to quilting, so have no idea on how best to do hand quilting. Do you happen to know the name of your pattern? :)

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I like the simplicity so that there's not a lot of premarking :)
I haven't got the backing done yet. I would like to add some of the fabric from the front on the back. I don't quilt very fast so it may take me a while to hand quilt ( usually @ a year ). I will certainly post a picture when I'm finished.

Is there a particular needle that I should use to quilt batiks?
