    I would frame the piece and not touch it with any sewing.

    I agree with Candace. Anything beyond this will decrease the value. I think you should explain this to the owner as well. If they opt for any of your other options then that is up to them. But if it was me, I would not touch it.

    I must say this is a magnificant piece of work!
