I do keep mine up all the time, but the top is removable. So remove the top before hanging up.

My friend and I made our big boards. It cost us $45 for 2. I made covers for them with a layer of cotton canvas and a layer of quilt fabric, 2 layers of cotton batting underneath. You can see part of my big board under my featherweight.

My husband made me this exact board years ago. I just recovered the top, making a thick pad from a few layers of wool blanket and stapling it around the bottom edges of the board. Then I added a cover of the silver Teflon fabric, stapling it to the bottom, covering the edge of the blanket layer. I also made a denim cover with elastic in a casing, to pop over the top for when I don't want fabric sliding. Works like a charm.
