i got a shock today too, but not in a good way.
who knew quilting cottons with christmas prints were going to cost $17.50 a meter?
yeah. pass.
(not @ walmart. at the local mill store. how am i to support local business with prices like that?!?!?! and plus you've never met a more unhappy, unhelpful group of staff members....)

I was told by a Walmart employee that each store manager decided whether they put fabric department back in their stores are not. The Walmart closest to me it's not going to carry fabric however I am lucky enough to have several others in the area that do have fabric now.

Congratulations! I'm so happy when I hear about their stores getting their fabrics in... I do like to get blender fabrics there since they're about the only place in town other than the high end shops that carries blenders... but sadly in the past two years they've doubled their prices :'( so I'm not buying my blenders often... but it's great when you need to find something and they're the only place in town that has it.

We have two Walmarts in Norfolk, plus a Walmarts grocery store. The one never did sell fabric and the other never stopped. The one that never stopped is making it bigger and the one that never sold before is now selling. Which I love because it's closer to me than the other one. I wish that store was also 24/7 like the one farther away but it doesn't take long to get there and its great when you are up late and need something.

WalMart Fabric Dept.
We never lost the fabric dept. in my closest WalMart. But now I think the quality is better than ever and it is much more organized. Most quilting fabrics are about $4.98.

Before the remodel there was never anyone nearby to cut fabric at our WM. At various times I tried ringing the little bell on the table, looking for someone, and on occasion just shouting out for help. None of those methods were very successful, and if they were it was very time consuming. Then I programmed the main phone number into my cell and would just call the operator and ask for help. I usually had someone there to cut fabric in just a minute or two. Of course then they had to figure out how to work the scanning tool, sigh . . . .

I,too, have the local WM phone number in my cell phone. If I can't find something, fabric or otherwise, I call and ask for help in whatever department I'm in. I've also called for help for other customers!! Our "fabric lady" is in charge of 5 departments....she can't be everywhere at once!
