Default Ideas/advice on quilting this

I finally finished piecing this applique butterfly quilt but, I'm at a loss on how to quilt it. I don't want to quilt over the appliques. I thought maybe a crosshatch but, was told that would take away from the butterflies. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Beautiful quilt. Crosshatching is such a timeless look. I don't think it would take anything away. The other popular option with applique is echoing which would look very nice with the rounded shapes of the butterflies.

I don't have any quilting ideas for you but just wanted to tell you your quilt is beautiful. I am sure you will get some wonderful quilting ideas from everyone here.

Your quilt is beautiful! The colors are so pretty. Well done!

Are you comfortable with FMQ? What about a leafy meander similar to this stencil: https://www.quiltingstencils.com/Mea...10_p_1013.html ? Obviously it's a stencil so you couldn't just buy it for your quilt, but it gives an idea at least.

What size are your butterflies and is that acceptable spacing for your chosen batting? If it is, awesome! If not, would you consider maybe quilting some circles or teardrops inside the wings to make a wing pattern of sorts? Or echo the shape of the wing to emphasize the shape? Kind of like this design that this blog details: https://atbquilting.wordpress.com/20...ling-out-mama/ . She's doing it as a quilting design, but you could simplify it some to work inside your applique if your batting needs closer spacing.

Crosshatching is gorgeous too and I think it'd look great but in my mind, it was a diagonal crosshatch so you'd have to start and stop often every time you hit another applique which to me, would be a total pain with all the starts and stops. Maybe you were thinking a vertical one so it was easier in the sashing?

I like your suggestion for a leafy meander in the horizontal spaces between the blocks. The first thing that came to my mind were the teardrop shapes in the wings. That would make the butterflies come alive. Echo sounds nice too

Beautiful quilt! The first thing that went through my head was how the tiny yellow squares sort of give me the impression of fireflies, lol.

Thank you for the suggestions Sephie. That leafy meander stencil is pretty. The top butterfly wings are 8" wide. The solid purple rectangle bove each butterfly square is 3" x 3". I purchased Quilters Dream Cotton batting which says stitching may be up to 8" apart.

Beautiful butterfly quilt! Did you use the die to cut them?

Good luck deciding on the quilting pattern.
