I'm in my third Rowenta. One I bought new and it lasted 3 years, leaked for most of that then steamed like crazy one day and ping! it was dead. Second one I bought used for $1, used it for 7 years with no leaking or other issues, and then it started going to sleep (auto-off) while I was using it. So recently I bought the one at Costco, it says "Made in Germany" and if it is a dud Costco has a great return policy.

I had a Black & Decker for years, probably because when I bought it, I was poor and couldn't afford a REALLY great iron. It was fine, did the job fine. But then it finally broke (probably more than 13 years old), and I went out and bought a Rowenta Professional at Target, on sale. I really love it. It's a bit heavy, but that adds to the great press I get. Also the steam is AWESOME compared to my B&D. When I press the steam button, it shoots out onto the fabric and almost hovers, the steam is so powerful. I love it. I don't know if it's one of the Chinese made models or what, but it's great. I'm hoping it lasts as long as the B&D.
