I would save a little more and buy a Bernina. They are absolutely wonderful. I have had 4 and wouldn't buy anything else.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new Viking Designer Diamond Deluxe. AND I still love my Pfaff 2170, my old Pfaff 262 mechanical; and my Pfaff 130 mechanical. I decided to go with Viking this time around and haven't had any regrets in the least. Would never consider a Bernina; they are always behind Pfaff and Viking in features, for example IDT. They rave that they have it on the new big 830 or which ever that is their latest top of the line. Pfaff has had IDT beginning with the 1222 models which came out in the 1970's. Plus two different reps in stores that sell them say they are not as user friendly as the Brother, Pfaff and Vikings. I do know and would agree that the old mechanical Bernina's were something to brag about and are very nice machines.

Everyone has different reason why they swear by the machine they have. You need to check all machines for what you think are the important things to have on a machine. If you want to quilt your own quilts make sure to look for a machine that has a larger throat space or you will regret it.

Sweet 16 sit down quilter.

Janome. You can get new 6600 or 6500 well within your budget. I have the 6600...it is a fabulous machine.
