Default I'm disappointed - anyone else?

Let me start out by saying that I really like Jenny Doan and MSQC. I will be going to one of her trunk shows in a couple of weeks and I can't wait, but I don't think I am going to buy her magazine anymore. Don't get me wrong they are BEAUTIFUL and I do enjoy just looking at them. But I have trouble with the patterns. Today I am working on the Starlight Starbright quilt (from the Summer issue) and the star measurements are not right. I double checked and I really do think I cut as directed, but things are off. Then I try to figure it out on my own and then I really make mess. I finally got it, but it took much longer than it should have. There are 2 other quilts in this issue that I would like to make but I am afraid that there will be measurements issues on those as well. Does anyone know if there are corrections that are listed anywhere?

You may want to contact them about the trouble you're having. Hopefullly, you will get some replies from those who subscribe to the magazine. I don't. I just check for a video.

I made this quilt and didn't have any problems that I remember. I don't fuss too much I just cut and sew and as long as the seams match I'm happy.

I feel sad for you with having such an issue with the patterns. Does make our fun hobby turn into a headache with mistakes on patterns and it can be costly too. All patterns that are put into magazines etc. should be tested before we get them. Hope all works out for you and you can be a happy quilter again.

I made that quilt from the video before the magazine came out and did not have any trouble. I have noticed that Jenny often seems to think there are 42 strips in a jelly roll when she is making a video. I have learned that I need to cut 2 additional strips from my backing or binding material to have enough to make the quilt like hers. I think Jump Rings was the last quilt with which I had that problem. I noticed when Block came out with the instructions for Jump Rings, they used a layer cake (42 pieces) rather than a jelly roll to make the quilt. I have made dozens of Jenny's quilts. I love them when I need to make a fast, easy quilt. I also like Block magazine although I have usually made the quilts I liked before the issue containing them came out. I'm just a big Jenny Doan fan.

I remember Jenny saying all the pre cuts in her stores contain a certain amount of pieces. They worked it out with the manufacturers to have a standardized amount before purchasing. I've always had enough to make any pattern of hers if I buy the precuts from her shop.
