Not flannel and definitely not the fabric. All the fabrics were prewashed and these were leftover blocks from another big quilt I made, that had different batting (poly) and did not shrink. It's definitely the batting, which is why the fabric is crinkled. If the fabric had shrunk, there wouldn't be wrinkles. I agree that it's time to start asking the company some questions, esp. since the box said to expect 3% shrinkage, and the paper instructions inside said to expect NO shrinkage.

I LIKE the look, just don't want to have to lose 10% of my quilts to shrinkage. That's too much.

I measured to see how much binding to cut-- once all the quilting was done. It was 31" square before washing, 28.5" after.

I always use the regular warm and natural..I don't think I've had that much shrinkage...The quilt looks great..I personally love the crinkle look..You did a great job...I will check the measurements closely next time I make a quilt...

Do not wash the batting. A customer read on some quilting board that she was supposed to wash her batting. She brought it in to show me. It looked like something you would use to make spider webs for Halloween after washing. She had to buy new batting. So I never recommend washing batting.

I had the same thing happen We used a white cotton bed sheet for baby shower guest to draw/write messages to the First grand son the sheet was washed and dried many many times.This was disheartening for me but the New Mommy to be was thrilled with it.But I will not waste my money on that stuff again

I experienced that recently too --- almost 10%! It turned my king sized top into a queen size! I wasn't happy at all, BUT..... the finished quilt was absolutely gorgeous. I purchased the top from a friend who had pieced it out of "thrifty" fabrics that were not pre-washed, and I also used Warm and Natural batting. I was thinking that it came from her not pre-washing the fabrics, because I use W&N almost exclusively, and have never had this kind of shrinkage before. I'd be willing to add extra borders to future quilts if you think this may occur again, but in my opinion the W&N batting is wonderful over the long term. BTW, your quilt looks wonderful! :D

Most of the quilts I make are baby quilts that I give away. I asked one neighbor if the quilt was holding up with all the washing, she said it was fine. The rest I never find out anything.I always wash all my fabrics before using them on any projects.
