Jane Stickles made a quilt while waiting for her husband to come home from war - the Civil War. She kept track of the number of pieces in all those tiny blocks. "Dear Jane" quilts are those made to replicate the original. There is a book out about it, with the patterns. I saw a "Dear Jane" this past weekend at a local quilt show. It was phenomenal!

I've made my first two Dear Jane blocks. Starting with the most difficult first, to get them out of the way. With that first little block (4 and a half freaking hours!), I was most definitely questioning Jane's sanity!!

Brenda researched the story of Jane Stickles quilt. The original quilt made in 1863 hangs in The Bennington Museum in Vermont for a short time of the year. I would love to see it one day.
I have a design wall of the 4 1/2" blocks I have done so far - if you click on the link below and then click on the individual block it will enlarge it. Please PM me if I can help any further.
