Okay, I've been thinking about this for awhile. Do you insure your stash in case something ever happens to the house? Has anyone ever discussed this with an actual insurance person? do they need specific pictures/yardages/anything? I'm just curious. I have no idea how many yards i have, but I'd hate to have to replace it all if something ever caught on fire/etc.

Good Question  I have looked at my policy and it has certain limits for collections , which I think they would consider fabric

Would be nice to hear what others think

I have read that if you have a collection of expensive quilts, even just your own work, that you may need to add a "fine arts" or something like that to your policy to cover them. That might apply to a collection of expensive fabrics too.

I have asked this same question.
was told they would most likely only pay for $2000 max.
unless you have receipts etc.
Fabric falls into one of those catogories like clothing
they pay you a flat amount
I have a business policy that covers my inventory(fabric, quilts etc) and I got it for that reason.
I don't support myself with quilting as a business but I do sell. Would hate to lose all my fabric and machines!

I had a fire in 2002 and did not have my quilting stash nor other craft items listed in my homeowners. I was given almost $6000 because some of it was smoked damaged and they could see that I had a stash. Basically, they took my word for my estimate. I guess it would depend on the company.

I think it would be covered under your homeowners insurance.
I have taken pictures of my machines and included the sales slip and stored then in our safe. Not sure if they would be prorated or replaced for purchase price. Really doubt if insurance companies will give you enough to buy a new machine. :(

I also think it depends if you have full replacement on your belongings . I always make sure I have that , so no depreciation  THANKFULLY I have never had to test it

We just redid our policy.
and I was told that a sewing machine was covered as with the computers and other electronics. which for our policy is $2000 limit unless you get a rider for more.
he about flipped when I told him the price of some of my machines!

I have my Bernina 730E listed as a seperate item on my household policy, but that is the only one. Here (in Ireland) you only have to list anything that is worth more than €2000 as an individual item.
