Probably stupid question, but which side of the insulbrite is down on the board, the shiny side?

    Dear BarbaraA
In our house the only stupid question is the one not asked. So be sure to continue to ask, it also leads us into other dicussions. As for the insulbrite, there is no up or down side. The insulation is in the center of two pourous fabrics, so either side up would be fine. I love the stuff and it's easy to sew through, too!

Thank you! I finished my big ironing board last night, using your method of layering. Thanks for the info!

    Hello Cizzors
Insulbrite reflects the heat up to the ironing surface, so I am using it - by the way, Insulbrite costs A$20pm here, so US$6 is very cheap, just remember to keep the shiny side up with a layer of cotton, calico or whatever on the top.

BarbaraA, thank you very much for posting this information. It sounds like a great way to cover an ironing board.

I haven't used anything except a cotton pad and a cotton cover in years. I'm not even sure of the advantages of using the silver covers at this point. I have no problem with the cotton covers and they are easy to wash and inexpensive to replace
