Janome HD 1000 sewing machine
http://www.costco.com/.product.100287597.html
Costco has this machine for sale, does anyone have this machine and do you like it? I've read reviews about it and most of them are positive. Would love any comments pros or cons for this machine.

Personally, I would prefer a white machine to a black one -- easier for me to see things with a white background. I found the white version on Amazon with reviews:

I guess I'm not sure why this machine would be preferable over this Brother that many on the QB have used and like:

Edit: I have seen a comment or two recently on the QB about the lower-end Janome machines having some tension difficulties.

I've never used the HD1000 but I have it's slightly fancier cousin the HD3000 and I'm very happy with it. I looked at the 1000 when I purchased my second machine a few years back but my current machine had a 4-step buttonhole and I wanted an upgrade to a one-step and a few more stitches. I know in some of her videos on FMQ Leah Day is sewing on the 1000 if that helps lol. I like mechanical machines, no computer boards to break.

I noticed the spool pins are vertical. That means if you are using crosswound thread and the thread winds from the side you will more then likely have tension issues. Crosswound thread has to unwind from the top of the spool or it gets a twist in it. Using a thread stand will probably prevent most of the tension problems.

It's really hard to go wrong, trying a machine from Costco. If the price and features are right, give it a try. If it doesn't work out, they'll happily take it back. Have you looked at the 4030P they have? That one might get closer to what you want, who knows.
I like the idea of a black machine. A bazillion Featherweight users can't be wrong ;-).
