I like your critters very much; they have lots of personality! I think I would crosshatch each square around but not through the appliques. I think I would outline some of the features in the appliques to give them dimension. Would you be comfortable using a stencil for the border? I like to trace them off on tracing paper or something that tears easily,pin it on and stitch around it.

Adorable. Yep, echo the animals and stipple the border or just "echo-stipple" the whole thing.

It turned out fabulous...I agree with outlining the characters but you may need some modest quilting (with white thread) in the white fabric, especially if the quilt is going to be heavily loved and washed. I would then do something fun in the sashing.

Just started mine but having problem with fabric. I've scoured friends stashes without a great deal of success so mine will not be as beautiful as yours.
