I guess I am pretty lucky, my in-laws think it stupid to sew when you can buy a quilt. I dont mend for them anymore since its never right. Just do it for my grown children and the grandbabies. I do do anything my daughter in law asks for since she is sooo appreciative. But otherwise I know where you guys are comming from. Jean

okay I'll add my 2 cents. While at work not driving the school bus and on a layover my quilting buddy and I where working on a charity quilt to help a co worker go to TX for a special treatment for cancer. Everyone knew we where doing this and a guy comes up to me and asks if I would sew his pocket back on his rear jeans. I said I would help him out tomorrow. He took his jeans off and through them out of the restroom! I was spell bound! The nerve then he doesn't even offer to pay me a dime.

After telling a friend in the Guild she laugh and said her sewing machine doesn't sew clothes! They asked her does it take a special machine in my house it does.

Loved reading about all the comments. I get asked, but I tell them it will be quite a while before I can get to it. They forget, or get the messsage and leave me alone.

Not really. I have 3 sons so they only ask when they need something mended or a button put on.

1. can you make me one....nope haven't been asked that yet
2. oh I have this fabric (?), do you want it.... yes sometimes

I feel I'm blessed with a talent and I'm happy to share it. I always tell them I can't promise them when, but I am happy to do it, if it is something I know how to do.
Now I know why I felt so moved to share some blocks with you!!! They went out in today's mail, by the way. Hugs and smiles!

I laugh bc my DH says I'm a dinosaur (I think I am the only person he has ever met that sews). But it seems to definitely have a magnetic draw, I have a number of my neighbors who have asked me for a variety of "favors", some have been interesting! Some offer to pay some don't, but they frequently will bring me gift cards or something. We have a very tight neighborhood, and I love them all!!

I have a similar question-my mom is a seamstress and has been for more than 40 years-so everyone assumes I'm one also-no way, she still has to hem my pants for me. I say I quilt, and that's mainly for me!
