Cool Knee Deep into a Quilt with no idea how to get out alive

I am working a She Who Sews Handmaids panel. There are 15 panels in the set. I want a more square quilt than oblong. You see this is a quilt (shhhh) for me. I've loved dressing up the panels with ruffles and ricrac and such. But now I can't figure out the layout and sashing and cornerstones - oh my. I attempted a foray into paper piecing to make a block to add in, but let's just leave that alone as it wasn't pretty - at all.

So I'm asking for ideas, suggestions, guidance, observations etc on ways I can assemble this quilt.

13" blocks and I have the option of adding 1 or 2 more panels that a dear friend gave me from her set.

    Thank you for two cents.

I think going four across is what you want. I like the block you made very much. Can you make it again and put it upside down below the first one? Then it would look like a complete star. Or is that part of the panel? If so, I would make a block the size of those blocks and put it in the corner. A New York Beauty would look beautiful but that is paper piecing, so you could do just a star quilt with flying geese and it would look beautiful. Only suggestions. Your quilt is going to look lovely. I love the panel pieces!! Very strong women! Yay!!!

I love your blocks! They are so whimsical. You definitely could do sashing between the blocks. If you want it more square, add one block from your friend. That would give you four rows of four blocks. Before any sashing or borders, that would give you 52x52 top. The width of your sashing and whether you add a border as well, will depend on how big you want the final product. It is going to be beautiful!

It looks like there is enough contrast between the blocks as they are that you can just sew them together without sashing. Add a nice big border if it isn't big enough.

I don't know that I have an answer for you......the title to your post just tickled me and your blocks are really awesom.

So 4 across 4 down then iethe your pieced block that I don't think is terrible at all or a block with a story about you or the quilt or the journey.
Setting together white maybe to really bring focus to each of your blocks or black that will work too but in my minds eye I see it in white.

add other blocks inbetween that will make it bigger overall and give you the extra blocks to make it more square if you desire, you sould also add different color borders to offset each color there already just makes the blocks a bit larger good luck..

Great blocks. I like four across best. Add more borders to individual blocks or could use the same fabric to outline all the blocks now.

the blocks are cute. But the star block doesn't really fit. I love the block, but I'd use the other 12 for this quilt and use that for another one or for a pillow. the star block could fit as 4 identical corner pieces/blocks for a border for the quilt.

I think yellow sashing would make everything pop. If the lower right is only a 1/2 block you could make another half in the same colors as the other 1/2 block like a grandmothers fan! Absolutely love it so far!
