I am getting ready to design the label for the quilt I am currently working on. It's my first label so I was wondering how big I should make it. Also, if I create the label in a straight line of about 12 inches do you think that would be okay? I am frustrated because some how I came up about 1/2 inch short in one corner of the backing while I have no extra any where else. I have some extra from when I was creating the top so I am trying to decide if I should put the label in that spot of if I should piece a small amount of the same fabric and then cover it with a square label. Advice, please? Thank you.

I've placed labels over "less than perfect areas".... I don't see a problem with that.

I don't see why you couldn't cover your spot with a long label. Just make it read facing out. You could put stars between each part of the label: name of quilt * for whomever * made by * then date
Hope this made sense to you

Straight line is fine. So is using your label to cover a spot.

I fuse my labels to the backing as well as sewing. I turn under two edges and put in a corner. That way the binding folded over covers those edges. Started the fusing with the college-age grands.
