People used to do it all the time, because they didn't have but one or two bobbins. Now we buy dozens of them.

Yep, when I learned to sew in prehistoric times, we only had like 4 bobbins and would just wind on top of whatever was there. Start the new thread without tying a knot onto the old one.

What a good idea! I never thought of that. I buy a lot of variegated, this should be almost the same. Thanks for the tip.

Oh yes, I do that often when I need a color I don't often use and don't need much of. Just wind it on a half full bobbin. The only frustration sometimes is that I didn't wind enough, because I did need a bit more than I originally thought LOL

Not uncommon for me to do this. Particularly if I have a small project to do and no handy empty bobbins.

What a great idea! And how silly I feel because it never occurred to me to do this. I can't tell you how many times I've grabbed the bobbin with the least amount of thread on it and pulled it all off, just to wind different thread on. Seriously, best tip of the day for me. Thank you!

I do it when I only have a smallish amount of sewing/quilting to do that I know wouldn't take a full bobbin. Especially if it is a thread color I rarely use.

I remember all the bobbins my mom had were like that. And if you needed one of the colors nearer the center you rewound the outer thread onto an empty thread spool.
