I had a quilt top that i was very close on the batting and backing - didn't guess good enough on the size of backing that I needed....sigh....I basted the quilt together very well - the basting stitches were fairly close together and that prevented any shifting of the layers. I find that if I pin the layers or don't baste well, the layers shift.
