I buy some small quilt kits and haven't had a problem. I also use a good muslin as backing after buying a cheaper one before and learned my lesson. I don't have a problem with sewing through it but then I hand piece and hand quilt all of my mini quilts so maybe I'm just use to it.
But I do have a problem with your post...I think you should tell CT about your experience as it is unfair to post it here and not give them a chance to make it right with you. This is just my own thoughts which probably should be kept to myself.
Another thought...if the quilt top is finished could you sell it to someone else to finish?

I only buy kits when I can see and feel them. Then if there is a change in fabrics from the picture or pattern front, I can decide then if I want it. Sorry this happen to you.

I, too, have always had excellent luck when buying kits from many different sources. CT online has a tab where you can look at all the fabrics in the kits ahead of time, or order more of the same for backings etc. It has always been true to what they have sent. I would contact them and give them a chance to explain or rectify. It has to be heartbreaking to expect one thing and end up with another. Good luck.

sval, don't give up. My experience has been wonderful with CT. Maybe it was your choice of batting. Try to consider all the possibilities. I have found their kits to be generous with fabric, directions good, and the finished product good.

I bought a kit from a store in my area, and did see and feel the sample; the first block was exactly like the sample but not so with the rest. It's ok, as I did like the applique pattern, but was disappointed in a few blocks where the colors were only vaguely like the sample. So even in person, things may not be as they appear. Obviously I didn't tear apart the kit in the store, which is the only way I'd have realized that it was so different.

I've been a kit buyer for years and have NEVER been disappointed. I don't have the small pieces so many demand and with a kit I get the variety of patterns and colors that I need. Now, sometimes, I do have to admit that I've not always been thrilled with all patterns, but as far as the fabric, as long as I've ordered it from a reputable company, I've not been disappointed. In the case of ordering from some, I have had more than enough fabric.....and there has always been a phone number, if I needed more fabric or had questions.

So sorry for your disappointment in your kit. I have never had a problem with CT. Their kits have always been great and great customer service. Hopefully by checking with them this issue can be resolved for you.

I don't really know what they can do at this point. I don't want a replacement. I just want them to realize the problem with the kits.
Although a credit would be nice.
CT has always been my number one source for fabric. I've always been happy with them before this. I have 3 other kits I bought at the same time. And they are all accurate. So I'm not sure what the deal is with this one.

I am reading your post with interest, sval, and appreciate your honesty in sharing your experience of disappointment. A similar experience happened locally, to a customer of a Locally Owned Quilt shop that specializes in selling complete kits for queen and kingsized quilts. One customer bought one, and it was about six months later that she made enough progress on cutting and sewing the blocks that finally she realized that the red accent piece supplied in the kit had been cut too small, (The Shop's mistake) and there was definiitely not enough fabric to complete her blocks. This kit had tightly-coordinated fabrics, all from a single Designer's Line. It would not be easy to simply "replace" the red with a scrap of some other fabric. She was angry at being shorted, and took it back to the store. Well, that specific Designer Fabric Line had come and gone, after all... she had waited six months, so "what could she expect????" Since she was an inexperienced quilter, she trusted the shop to supply everything needed. She did not have a roomfull of "stash". And, she was not a Scrap Quilt lover. It was a sad situation, and her anger exceeded the actual loss. The quilt shop could attempt to give her a replacement fat quarter but it meant the customer needed to tear apart all the dozen+ of blocks she had already stitched, since every block incorporated the red as a significant design element. A sad story.
