When I am trying a new bag or purse pattern, especially one that has some complexities to it I use muslin for a practice one. The finished test bag gets used for travel, for toiletries, mobile phone/ iPad cords, jewelry, etc.

I cut them into squares for the foundation of string blocks. For the strings I cut leftover fabrics from projects into 2 1/2" strips. This way I use up leftover pieces of muslin and leftover from projects.

AKA Pillowcase method. You lay the batting, backing & top down, sew almost all the way around, leaving about an 18" space. Then turn it. Often these quilts are then tied.

I use them in my scrappy quilts when I need a light fabric.

ditto for me..when I have left overs, I have a set size I use for string blocks. Sure saves me time when I need to just sit and do some mindless sewing! I have all my strings and the precut muslin ready to go in a container.

Here's an easy potholder idea you could use muslin on. You could replace the leaves with any design you like.

If they are good quality muslin, I use them constantly in piecing. I buy Moda minibolts.
