My local fair has all the information online - categories, divisions, requirements, deadlines, etc. Maybe you could check for your county?

Years ago, before I started quilting, I entered several photographs in the photography division at my county fair. I had received TONS of compliments on two photos in particular, one of which was a pensive black & white scene, the sun peeking from behind stormy clouds over a dark, angry ocean, a lone seagull standing on the beach. I had deliberately printed it grainy because it added to the moodiness of the picture. The judges knocked my score down because it was grainy, and gave first prize to a studio picture that was technically perfect, but nothing more than a single tulip in front of a black background, which I thought was quite boring to look at. Moral of the story - art is subjective. I was disappointed for a couple of weeks, but I'd much rather have my moody, grainy, write-your-own-story picture than that dumb tulip that would get boring to look at after one day.

I'd like to enter a quilt in a show someday - maybe this year I'll start with my local fair.

I bet I'd love your photos.

One reason I've always liked B&W over color is that we can sort of write our own story about the photo. If it's a flower or building or outdoor scene, we can see what we want to see. I'm not a fan of pink anything so if I see a B&W flower I can all it yellow if I want. If I see a buildig I can decide it's more on the beige side than gray side if I want.

Congrats on your creativity. Regardless of any judges' opinions.

that sort of thing really doesn't interest me, but I'm grateful for those who do show their work.

I like to enter quilts. The Maine state quild show has 2 levels -- judged and just for show. Some of the best ones in my opinion are the first time quilters.

With all that has been happening in my life for the last few years, I haven't. I will this winter when I get back to WA. The local Maine guilds don't meet during the summer -- sad.
