They re-did the layout in my store and made it with tall shelves, three bolts high. I feel claustrophobic when I go down the isles. I asked the girl and she said that they gave them less room but ordered more fabrics. She said she had a bunch of fabric in the back that she couldn't even display because there was no room. She suggested to call 1-800-WAL-MART and complain about the closed in isles. I am 5'5" tall and I have problems getting the bolts on the top down to even see the price!

I just bought some fabric at WalMart yesterday and while talking to the clerk discovered that a complete "reset" of the crafts dept is coming in the next 2 weeks. She told me there are bolts and bolts of new fabrics in the back waiting for the reset. I am excited! The increased quality of WalMart fabrics makes it much easier to find what I need. I love spending my money locally, and having worked there myself I feel like my $$$ ....ok just $ LOL....helps to keep my friends working!

Our WalMart just got our fabric dept back in too and I am so thrilled. I even found the Thomas Kinkade Log Cabin print that I'd been looking & looking for for the backing of my next Log Cabin quilt I want to make. They have some GREAT fabric for quilting and other things too. I hope every WM gets the same real soon.

Our WM took the fabric dept. out last year. Now they have put in a smaller fabric dept.---half an aisle crammed into the middle of the store. Everything is piled up about 7' high, so we vertically challenged people can't even see the fabric on the top. It only took one visit to the dept. for me to walk out of the store. There are WMs in a few towns close by that have much better fabric depts., so I just drive there. To be honest, the entire local store is poorly managed---not just the fabric dept. I still prefer my LQS.

BUT, while at retreat this weekend, I heard that the WM in Alva, OK never lost their dept, and that it was also going through the new changes....so off we went...and WOW...I spent $70! I got a nice white on white that is heavy with large roses on it for $1.50 yd, some college fabric that was priced $4 per yard cheaper than our WM, and some of the "super flannel" that is normally $5.79 yd for only $1.50 per yd. I bought the whole 12 yd bolt! It is thicker than most flannels, great for a thin batting, and it does not shrink much, AND it is easy to dye!

Point is, not all WM are created equal! I wish ours was more quilter friendly, but they are geared to the younger mod moms making "dress up" clothes for their kids...and crappy fleece blankets! Very little cotton at all, and what they do have is like cheese cloth with paint on it! sigh
Hey sounds like my area.. One WM has nothing much and another 30miles away has a wonderful enormous fabric and notion department...go figure why!!!!!!

I'm jealous, all ours brought back was some precut pieces, and there nothing special.
