I am about to embark on my very 1st log cabin. I was also told it was easy, but that may be for some. I enjoy challenges, I'll take it one step at a time

I usually chain-piece about 10 at a time, press and square-up every two logs.
I love how the strips turn into blocks.

I've made more log cabin quilts than anything (one even won an award at a quilt show), and I paper piece them. I don't have to worry about squaring up, make them 5 or 10 at a time, while watching a baseball game or something. My favorite part about paper piecing is not having to pay that close attention --- just have to remember my lights and darks, and that's it.

    BTW...Great string quilt Peckish.

were doing well, we have been back for a week now, and there is no smoke here, beautiful blue skies. Just like it had been. Nothing burned in our little town or the one next to ours. The firefighters have and continue to do wonderful work

I have the Eleanor Burns book but her technique won't work for my project. I have images of birds as the centre square and they all have to be upright and in a certain set pattern. I have six rows of six each and I chain stitch six at a time, following my grid. I still think it is necessary to keep checking to see that all the squares are even.
