1st I would reccomend that you go to quilt shows and try using a few different brands. Once you know what you feel would be a great fit for you then go to some of the yahoo groups most of them are brand specific. The machines can run from the low thousands all the way up to the uper 20 thousands. please do some home work before you make such a big purchase. You will be a happy longarmer in the long run.

Thanks for the great idea of a quilt show to check them out!

We have a longarm thread where the different quilters are listed. You could contact them and find out what machine they have, how they like it, and if they would buy it again. They may even give you buying suggestions.

it is best to visit and try out as many different machines as you can find. there are a number of them out there; and lots of price ranges. not all are created equal and different people really like different machines.

Many big dealers sell used machines. Also you might Google "used longarm quilting machine". That's how I found my second-hand Tin Lizzie. Many sites are out there on the internet.

Take your time! This is a large investment, and is a lot like buying a car - what works for me, may not be a good fit for you.

DEFINITELY try out several types before spending any money.
You will quickly get a feel for what you do and donot like about the different models.
Inspect everything and ask lots of questions.
