Here are before and after photos. I posted the before earlier seeking help for this ugly top, and then I had an inspiration--I added the black strips on 2 sides of each block. I like it now. :-) So now I'm trying to decide how to quilt it. One idea would be to do a FMQ flower in the center of every block, along the lines of Lori Kennedy's flower:

But I'd love to hear some other suggestions from y'all.
Thanks for looking!

This link is fabulous. Many, many, FMQ motifs with tutorials. Thanks for the link.

I like it too...great thinking! I think this block would be a great one for a quilt I wish to make my son. Thanks for posting the update.
How did you add the 2 strips to your already pieced blocks? If anyone knows of a pattern for what I call the floating blocks , please share the name or link. Thanks for your inspiration.

1. Do you love it now? Then I would really up the "WOW" factor even more with some "modern" quilting (a la Judi Madsen)
I, too remember the original post and LOVE the final results! I agree with Leta's suggestion if you are up for a contemporary look - something Judi Madsen style would be spectacular!
