Default Look what I did!

Here are before and after photos. I posted the before earlier seeking help for this ugly top, and then I had an inspiration--I added the black strips on 2 sides of each block. I like it now. :-) So now I'm trying to decide how to quilt it. One idea would be to do a FMQ flower in the center of every block, along the lines of Lori Kennedy's flower:

That does look better, but how did you add the black strips after the block was made?

Raw edge applique. It would have been a lot easier to piece them from the beginning!
