    Default Bernina 440QE

I am thinking about selling my Bernina 440QE so that I can instead buy 2 sewing machines. One to have set up for daily use and one to use for taking to quilting classes/sewing days, etc. I have a 440QE that I bought 3 years ago because I wanted the the BSR (Bernina Stitch Regulator) for free motion quilting. I used it on 4 quilts and then decided to buy a long arm machine. So now I know that I will never use the BSR again and so I am thinking about selling the 440QE to be able to use the money towards 2 Bernina sewing machines that are lesser value machine (perhaps Used ones). The 440QE has many stitches and 3 alphabets and I have never used any of it. I bought the sewing machine specifically for the BSR. I did not buy the embroidery module with it as that part did not interest me. However, it can be added. Has anyone bought a new Bernina 440QE recently (without the embroidery module)? How much did you pay? Bernina makes a 500 series now and discontinued making the 400 series and I know the 500 series are quite a bit of $. I'm just trying to figure out what my 3 yr. old 440QE is worth so I can decide if I should sell it or just keep it (even though it has many features I do not use). I simply use the straight stitch and the zig zag stitch, so that is why I'm thinking I could just buy a machine with less features. If I decide to sell it, I will have to sell it straight out because even though I want to buy Bernina sewing machines, I will not be able to trade it in for a new one since I am not upgrading--I am actually downgrading to try to be able to get 2 machines for myself.

I paid about $3000 for my B 440 QE without the embroidery about a year ago? I just picked up a new quilting book that has the B 550 QE listed at $4,399. I would think that you wouldn't have any trouble selling it if you have a quilt guild in your area to advertise it. Maybe even someone close from the QB would be interested in picking it up. As for price....$2000 maybe? I don't know how much you paid for it originally and if you can't recoup most of the price I would just keep it myself.

I don't know what they are new but I've recently seen them used from stores or Craigslist ranging from 1875-2100 dollars. Good luck.

Most good Bernina dealers will give you a fair price in trade for other machines as well. Will save you the hassle of trying to sell it.

I definitely would talk to your Bernina dealer. As feline fanatic said-they usually give you a great trade in rather than trying to sell it.

I would love to do a trade in at the Quilt Shop. I really want to get a 210, 220, or 230 and maybe two of them so my two machines are identical. I just figured the Quilt Shops won't take a trade if they aren't going to hardly make a profit with the sale of a new machine/s. I figured maybe if I sold it straight out, I would find a couple used 210, 220, or 230 that I could buy for the same price. I used to have a 230 and that is all I need for a machine--something just very basic as I don't need any of the other bells and whistles. When I bought the 440QE it was specifically for the BSR which I no longer need. Thanks for your advice.

I made the decision to post my Bernina Aurora 440 QE for sale. I posted it on this "For Sale" site and will be posting it on a couple other sites. I posted it for $1400 and hopefully it will sell quickly at that price. Wish me luck!
