Looking for Quaker quilt patterns/pictures circa 1850
My quilt/book club recently read, The Last Runaway, about an English Quaker girl who comes to Ohio in the mid 1800's. She is a quilter and back in England she did patch work and hexagons but in Ohio the quilters were doing applique on white backgrounds as it was quicker. Seems at that time you needed a bunch of quilts in your dowry. Anyway, my group decided we each would make a quilt inspired by something in the book. We will enter them in our Guild's Quilt Show in May. So I thought I'd do a small Ohio style applique quilt as my project. Just taking a chance that someone here knows what I'm looking for. Author did provide some research sites on her website but I'm trying to surprise my group with my design. May in Jersey

A young women's hope chest used to contain a dozen quilts. I believe and the last one was made special for the wedding after her engagement. I don't don't know any history for Quaker quilts but I do know they made many inventions. They even developed a way of weaving to produce fabric that was water resistant. I would Google Quaker quilts and see if any appeal to you.

Wow, That's a great quilt and the idea of applique and patchwork together might just do it for my quilt. Thanks so much. Can you tell me where I can find the Ohio Rose pattern? May in Jersey

You might be able to find something on the quiltindex. http://www.quiltindex.org/index.php I think signature quilts were popular in that time period - maybe make one and get the guild members to sign it?

The block I used was in a 100 Quilt Block special magazine issue from the early 1990s. I did find this ad on eBay and it is $4 - this might help.
